Bridgewater

Welcome To Bridgewater, Maine!

The Story

Why They Came To Settle Bridgewater Maine.

Early settlers came from Southern New England, from over across the border in the Atlantic Canadian provinces or further away across bridgewater me communitythe pond into Europe. Fertile farm soil is what the fields are filled with in Bridgewater. High yield crops are what happen when Northern Maine farmers tend this rich agricultural soil.Like people, soils are different when you are dealing with dirt.

In 1803 while Maine was still part of the state of Massachusetts, Bridgewater Maine was split into two three by six half townships. The south division being called Portland Academy, the north half Bridgewater. Land sold off by land grant universities or academies was one way to open up and get northern sections of the vast Maine wood land settled.

Population came slowly and winter weather did not help the fire in the belly to open up the Northern unorganized territories. March 2nd, 1858 Bridgewater  incorporated and Maine became a state in 1820. Bridgewater is 436′ above sea level.
