To me, this is the real deal and what rural Maine is all about, not the commercial four color glossy propaganda on the more affluent, tourist driven sections of the rock bound coast. Danforth Maine is two townships, a large land mass that borders Aroostook County to the north.

The Washington County town named after Thomas Danforth. Who exactly was Thomas Danforth this small Maine town’s namesake? In 1930 the population swelled to 1467 and judging by the quality of the housing design, this railroad rich town was an important train route junction.

When East Grand Lake is in your town, you know one of the major options for recreational fun is going to be water related. East Grand Lake is 16,000 acres large and fun. But the Baskegan River flowage, Upper and Lower Hot Brook Lake are other waterfront recreational options. Danforth has a golf course, a neat public library. The views from the hillside coming into Danforth from any direction gets your attention too.
The most rewarding time and best education is to eat with the Danforth native population. At a local public supper, at a sporting event with a snack at SAD 14 East Grand Lake school game or local church supper. Danforth Maine has the Mill Yard for one tasty dining option. Knight Grocery Store across From Machias Savings Bank in downtown Danforth Maine has a deli with a large variety of take out items.
Lots of local sporting camps, Settler’s Lodge too in Weston with the view to the west of Mt Katahdin. Come see the Million Dollar View region of Maine! Many vacation rental options around the lakes to sample Maine.

Plan your picnic over looking the lakes or river. Trails for snow sleds, ATV, for hiking, biking or just to be in the woods where all the wildlife live.
