Volunteering and pitching in to meet the challenges pulls you in to feel needed, a vital part of the Maine community.

In my job as a Northern Maine real estate broker, the most successful relocation moves to Vacationland are folks who dig in and help out sharing their unique talents, skills, experiences.
They look around, see where they can lend a hand and step up to contribute. These people produce, not just consume and make a difference.
These people are well traveled and an asset when they pick, move to a Maine community wherever it is in the state.
They have lived in other places and bring a new fresh creative perspective to the Maine community they end up investing it by purchasing a property.

Some migrating to Maine are already from the area.
Just moved away to city jobs awhile back but always intended to return to Maine.
Others went to college here, were stationed at say Loring Air Force Base in Limestone or Brunswick Naval Air Station or their parents were from Maine.
Elderly parents with health issues another factor in it’s time to come home to Maine.
Often, I can not believe the low real estate prices in Maine and just have to buy a property.

Well Andy, wait just a minute. Didn’t those move to Maine folks pitch in and help make a difference where they last lived? Lots did but the area changed to the point they could not stay.
Many felt more and more disenfranchised, the chemistry was not so intimate like small town Maine communities provide. No natural beauty and four-season space.

Over and over, the real estate buyer moving to Maine tells me they had no choice.
They either could never afford to buy and hold onto a property, a home. Or they did buy back when the area was decent but when all that went down the drain,
their house was worth a lot. So like a poker game with a large pot, they sold.
Cashed in their chips and high tailed it to Maine to start over in a new house, brand new community.
The high cost of living, crime, traffic where they lived before changed to the point they just could not stay there.

Their surroundings in an urban setting not spacious and unspoiled like Maine.
Too much commercial development, too much traffic, crime and a lot of angry people.
That’s part of the “why I moved to Maine” Heard it for the past 46 years in my job as a lifelong Northern Maine Aroostook County native.
Maine is a handful of cities, but over 450 unique small rural communities.

Unfortunately, many of the rural sections of the vast state of Maine does have a lot of press online. Not a lot of people, not many keyboard warriors blogging online about the far corners of Maine.
Heck even the state officials forget or have no clue how to get to Estcourt Station or Vanceboro Maine.
Do not make the mistake of being pulled into a Reddit thread about lots of untrue rumors about what’s it like living in Maine.
Come see for yourself. Do your homework but also your own thinking. Catch the vibe, watch and listen to community event videos for Maine.
Take some real estate property listing video tours for what’s for sale in the current market of a small rural Maine community or two.
The folks who like Maine the best often are living in a place no way like it is here.

Also, when you see the average price of a Maine home today is approaching $400K, wait just a minute. That figure is highly skewed because of southern Maine near the big green bridge.
Along the expensive “Gold” coast tourist trap regions of Maine.
In Northern Maine, that average real estate house sale figure is more like $137,000.
Big difference and where you end up in the big state of Maine is so vastly different in many ways.
Please don’t try to distill it all done with a quick catchy sound bite analysis.
And don’t rely even on tired worn out copy and paste Maine tourism marketing pieces.

Whoever writes the state’s promotion should live there and know how best to describe the special features, unique history and the “what’s it like” in you fill in the blank
Maine community.
You can not sum up Maine in ten words or less and truly describe all the regions around the sixteen counties.
