Welcome To Orient, Maine!

The Story

Like the Far East, This Orient in Maine is up north. It is a bit of a hike to get here but you won’t want to leave. Orient Maine is water.

lake sunset boat
Maine Lake Boating. Orient Is Full Of Waterfront Fun Options.

Lots of lakes of all waterfront sizes. Early settlers to Orient on April 9th, 1856 organized the township originally labeled T9 R1 or Monroe and Orient Gore.

The name Orient was picked because it is as East as you can go up against the province of New Brunswick Canada.

Plus East Grand Lake has a jagged, watery International boundary line jutting east into this 16,000 plus acre lake. The population of Orient Maine now is 147 but don’t let the number fool you.

Summer vacation residents here part time make the numbers swell. Snow birds return and tourists arrive each spring.

Lumbering, farming, tourism are the big Orient Maine industries.

Besides one of Maine’s largest East Grand Lake, Deering, Brackett, North Lakes are other waterfront recreational options.

With our high speed Internet connections, telecommuting and working remotely online on your out of state job is an option when your simple week’s vacation turns to desire to be a full time Maine resident.

The path is easy but long because Maine is an eight hour tall state. Heading up US RT 1 along the Maine coast will twist and turn take you in and out of small harbor town locations. It will chew up some time, burn a little money but be worth it if you can spare the time. Otherwise, set the cruise control on what you drive to 75 miles per house and point the vehicle north to head up Interstate 95.

I-95, the quickest route to head to the Orient Maine location. Get off at the Lincoln exit and over onto RT 169 to proceed diagonal to RT 1 in Danforth Maine. Keep driving north, passing through Weston and the Million Dollar

View to your right and next town up is Orient Maine.

You could use US RT 2A the main highway before I-95 along with US RT 2 to head north in Maine just to break up your journey with different scenery to look at along the way. How much time do you have to spend in Maine is a question determining the best route to take to Orient Maine.

Things To Do For Fun

Orient Maine has a US Canadian International port of entry border crossing.

You can use the Boundary Road check point or go South on US RT 1 to Danforth, then take a left up into Forest City to visit Canada through another border crossing station.

Funny we get asked is it dangerous being this close to Canada. Ah no. Just the opposite and everyone on both sides of the borderline is related.

Enjoy the weakened Loonie too and with free trade, make the purchase for discounted priced items you need from Canada.

If you are not running the roads to Canada or on a mission to bee line to Downeast Maine for seafood and blueberry pie, there’s lots to do in Orient Maine with all this water frontage. Major lakes, interesting coves and islands to explore.

Bring your fishing gear. Or maybe it’s fall and you are a leaf peeker, someone who likes to hunt for white tail deer, black bear, moose or other game.

Don’t forget your camera no matter which season you find yourself in Orient Maine. That’s a given for essentials to capture the Kodak moments. To collect the cherished moments with your family and sporting buddies.
